Hopefully it's a temporary condition.

bwahahahahahahaha. take 3 pints of guinness and a romp with a hot guy. it cures most ills (or so i'm told). btw, sara, you applying for the england job?

If by 'England job' you mean 'Michael Owen's personal massage therapist' then yes, my application is pending.

Seriously though, I don't know what was funnier - all the players being booed at their clubs over the weekend every time they touched the ball, or the World Cup draw that grouped them with Croatia.

michael owen's masage therapists get burn out, so much time does he spend on the treatment table. i loved the booing bit, personally. i did a bit of that meself when watching on tv. who's gonna be the unlucky guy to get the job, do you reckon?

No clue! There has been so much turnover with managers the last few weeks I can hardly keep track of it. I do find it hilarious this scramble for everyone to find something else to do. Never have a group of people tried so hard to avoid getting a job.

I'm really curious as to who poor Ireland is going to end up with. They seem to be last in line and now that Paul Jewell has been snatched up, the future isn't looking so bright.

And all this means too that the US is stuck with Bob Bradley and his precious son (he's like 18 and has started every match - in central midfield! - since his daddy took over.) through 2010. Maybe we'll crash out of qualifications against Bermuda or something and save ourselves some embarrassment.

i hear mourinho has put himself forward - for england, not the USA. and what's the point of managing a national team if you can't play your son where he wants to play? i don't want jose to get the job cos he's bound to play lampard again and i wouldn't let him on the field if there were only eight englishmen available (that's probably the case anyway)

I think Mourinho is just toying with the FA and is using the possibility of an England contract as leverage towards getting offered more money from European clubs. On the other hand, England is pretty much Chelsea minus the players Mourinho never really liked anyway, so maybe he does want the job. The guy's a prick, and while certainly an entertaining prick, all entertainment value is nullified with the inclusion of Lamps.

Speaking of entertaining pricks, I miss Lehmann. Things just aren't nearly as exciting without his antics.

So, who's your pick? Is Lampard's dad available?

MC,
England lost an important soccer game; hysteria ensued/s. BBC America dedicated about 15 minutes of its news program - after briefly covering such boring topics as people blown to bits in Iraq, civil war, riots - to try and explain to Americans the scale of the disaster. To an outsider, especially one whose own national team is a joke, the whole thing is pretty funny. And since the entire soccer community is discussing little else, it's interesting to follow the gossip and debates about who will become the new manager (the old one was sacked the next day).

bill shankley, famous old (dead) manager of liverpool, once said: football isn't a matter of life and death; it's more important than that.
